John Perras
John Perras was born in 1961 in Somerville, Massachusetts and grew up in New England with his four brothers until he was 25 and almost done. Having never been there but hearing good things about sun and surf, in 1986 he packed up a van and headed to San Diego. After nine years in California, more promising job prospects pulled him to Austin, Texas.
As most of his working life was spent in the semiconductor industry, it's likely you've used some electronic device he had a hand in making. He may also have cooked you a meal, made your eyeglasses, recycled your Coke bottle, or checked over your tax return.
Finding no lasting satisfaction in these and other professions, and falling short of becoming the world's greatest producer of humorous greeting cards, he quit all that stuff to write a novel.
After completing Finding Einstein's Molecules, John wrote a couple of serious short stories in order to keep up the flow of rejection letters from publishers. But eventually Finding Einstein's Molecules was published, which is why this biography suddenly became interesting. Before that, most people found it pretentious to be carrying around. John is currently working on the sequel, to the novel, not the biography.
John enjoys nature and likes to hike, kayak, and swim. He's a bit of an exercise and health nut without being a fanatic. "I'll take that last slice of pie," he's been rumored to have declared more than once. "And would it kill you to get me a beer?" These phrases are becoming increasingly common as he gets older.
Fortunately, he can still recall, among other travels, scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting in Maine, and parachuting from his first plane ride. Still, he's never even been to Kansas. So there's that and more to look forward to.
