But whether Kusac and his elite team can actually accomplish their mission and escape with their lives remains to be seen. For to achieve their goal they must rendezvous with the Valtegan general who is Kusac's archenemy in the hopes of rescuing Kusac's young son. But even if he succeeds -- branded rebel by his own people, struggling to deal with new powers he scarcely understands, and caught between the machinations of his own god and those of a secret and ancient alien organization - can Kusac hope to regain all that he has lost on Shola?

Another wonderful addition to Lisanne Normans Sholan series. Every time I open one of her books I get trapped in her world until its finished. She has created a large universe in which to play. "Between Darkness and Light" finds Kusac embarking on a mission to save a little boy from Valtegans. This is Kusacs first mission and also the first time that we see him in a role that is so aggressive. With the help of his small crew, he is forced to help the valtegans in order to save the boy. Little does he know there are other forces who have interest in him and the little boy and across space there is a world where two races are playing god with everyone elses lives. This book is just wonderful and I cannot wait for the next!

This is not a shoot-em-up type of book, but that genre is covered by numerous other aurthors. What I like most is interesting characters solving interesting problems. I find those here. I like how the characters play off of each other in ways that keep the tension high and the reader wondering what will happen next.

As with many series type books, its best to start with the first book, Turning Point, and read them in order.
